Who We Are Doodlebug Academy opened for business on March 23, 2018.
A few years ago, Michael and Amy James began to see a need in the community for a high-quality childcare center catering to the safety, care, and education of the children in our wonderful Cache Valley. In 2016, they began working to make Doodlebug Academy a reality. With the help of amazing people, architects, designers, business leaders, and construction contractors, the childcare center became a reality with the completion of its construction on March 15, 2018—just one week before our grand opening.
During the past three and half years since our grand opening, we have learned so much about our wonderful neighbors and their children. We are so grateful to be entrusted with the care of your precious children!
Our Founders Doodlebug Academy is owned and operated by Michael and Amy James.
Michael and Amy James were both raised in Utah (Kaysville and Syracuse) and decided early on in their marriage to stay in Utah to raise their children.
Michael and Amy were married in 1996 and pursued much of what everyone else also strived for: college education, family, friends, and a means of living. Michael graduated from Weber State University in December 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications and Business Management and landed a career at the local telephone company (US West, Qwest, CenturyLink, and now called Lumen).
Amy, on the other hand, put her college education on hold to be at home with their children (Justin, Christopher, and Chloe). During this time, Amy operated a small in-home preschool that was called Farr West Meadows Preschool. This preschool ran for eight years while the couple lived in Farr West. This business concluded when the family decided to move to Smithfield in 2009.
After moving, Amy decided it was time to go back to school and finish her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University. She began her classes at the end of 2010 and graduated in 2014. She then took a position with the Cache County School District as a third-grade teacher where she taught for four years before resigning to serve as the director of Doodlebug Academy.
The James family is completely thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful community of neighbors and friends. We look forward to many more years serving the families and children of this wonderful community through our daycare in Smithfield, Utah.
